Four hours on a small minibus crammed full of sweaty travellers is bad enough. When two of those sweaty travellers are way cool American students with baggy pants and VERY LOUD voices discussing "Communism as a Capitalist concept" (like, way deep), being dragged by our ankles behind the bus would have been a more agreeable option.
But Pai turned out to be a real gem, nestled in the hills and surrounded by paddy fields where the pace of life is SLOW. Bliss. We managed to find a gorgeous little thatched bungalow with a pool & french doors opening out onto the fields for only $15 night! Having gleefully sent home all our warm clothes on arrival in Thailand, we were suprised to find that Pai was flippin' freezing at night...even us Brits had to ask for an extra duvet!
And so we spent the week relaxing on the day beds by the little pool, people watching from the roadside bars, eating yummy Thai snacks at the night market and bazzing about on a moped to the local villages, waterfalls and elephant sancturies. We were sad to leave. Boo.
